Striding towards the world stage

Logan’s walking football team could venture into international territory after dominating a Queensland competition.

The team won the over 65s walking football competition at the Queensland University of Technology in Kelvin Grove.

It was a round robin competition, which involved the team playing eight games over two days.

One player, Michael O’Connell, was even injured scoring a goal.

“I am happy to say that we won,” team member Keith Forrest said.

“As a result, we have been invited to play in other competitions including the Pan Pacific Games, a tournament in Coolum and another in Adelaide.

“It was even suggested that we form a team to take to England next year.”

The team was only formed in August 2022, but has since developed into a mighty force.

“I am more than happy how our small group has progressed,” Mr Forrest said.

The team is currently looking for sponsorship from a Logan business.

“If there any businesses that would like to sponsor us in some way, I would be happy to hear from them,” Mr Forrest said.

The winning team included local men Nigel Rehbock, John McDougall, Malcom Evans, Stuart Purvis, Ross Peachy, Graham Stone, Keith Forrest, Michael O’Connell and Bryson Easton.
