Logan
Name: Linus Power (incumbent)
Age: 51
Occupation: English, History and Japanese High School Teacher
Party: Australian Labor Party
Why should people vote for you?
Working with the community, it’s my job to back Logan families with the jobs, roads, schools, healthcare, and infrastructure we need. As a former teacher, I know Logan kids deserve the best possible education, and that’s why I have delivered five new schools and new classrooms and admin blocks in our schools. My job is not done. We recently secured the sites for new High Schools in Greenbank and Logan Reserve/Chambers Flat. I want to build these new high schools so that our kids can go to high school locally. Great healthcare delivered locally is vital; that’s why I pushed hard, and we are delivering the Yarrabilba Satellite Hospital, delivering an urgent care clinic and other local health services. This builds upon the over 300 new beds for Logan Hospital, new maternity suites, a new neonatal unit, upgraded operating spaces and new palliative care wards. I pushed for better fares, and we permanently lowered fares to 50 cents per journey. We also have delivered four new and extended bus routes. We continue to grow with new families moving into our area; I know I have to continue to fight. I’ll build on what we have done, listen to the community and deliver more for Logan.
Name: Mathew Owens
Age: 34
Occupation: Multisite Manager
Party: LNP for Logan
Why should people vote for you?
I have lived in Logan for most of the last decade. I love our community and have seen the pain in the electorate from Labor’s cost of living and housing crises- so I’m standing up and speaking out for Logan.
We need stable adult leadership, and I look forward to working with David Crisafulli and his team to end the chaos and crisis and restore confidence in government.
Community involvement is not just photographs. I am immensely proud to have been involved in and led great organisations doing incredible community work and making connections with other local charities and organisations in this process.
I have been a Justice of the Peace for nearly 12 years, a Jimboomba Rotarian since 2018, a wildlife carer and an RSPCA volunteer.
I have previously led Logan Country Safe City, which works towards community safety and infrastructure outcomes.
I have also been involved with Jimboomba Neighbourhood Watch. In my professional life, I am a local franchise Operations Manager.
I have also completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Veterinary Technology at the University of Queensland and a Certificate in Automotive Electronics through TAFE.
The people of Logan need a fresh start, and a government committed to fighting for them instead of its own survival.
We need strong, fresh local leadership backed up by the experience of the wider LNP team to tackle the cost of living, housing, and hospital and crime crises.
Name:Â Joshua Riethmuller
Age: 23
Occupation:Â mining worker
Party:Â Greens
Why should people vote for you?
Joshua is a mining worker and he’s passionate about working hard to stop the cost-of-living crisis and give the people of Logan a prosperous life.
Joshua currently works in the coal mines, ensuring sustainable practices and fostering strong relationships between the mining industry and local communities, promoting both environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
His vision for Queensland is to start working with nature instead of against it.
With more rigorous taxing of large multinational companies and better environmental protections Joshua genuinely believes Queensland can become the best place in the world to live and work.
Better taxation will provide better education, health services and reduce social inequality to create a fairer and more sustainable future for all Queenslanders.
In addition to world-class national parks and green spaces to improve mental wellbeing for all Queenslanders, Joshua is committed to: 1) Working to end the cost-of-living crisis 2) Making multinationals pay their fair share 3) Properly funding schools and hospitals.
Waterford
Name: Shannon Fentiman (incumbent)
Age: 40
Occupation: Lawyer
Age:Â Labor Party
Why should people vote for you?
This election is about who you trust most to deliver a plan for our future, not take us backwards.
I’m asking for your support so that I can continue to fight hard every day to make sure our community gets its fair share.
Even before I was elected, I worked here as a local lawyer and volunteered at a number of local community organisations like the Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre and the Centre for Women. I know how important it is to have strong local services.
We are a growing community, and when you drive around Logan you can see what I’ve delivered.
I’m so proud to have fought for Logan Hospital’s biggest ever expansion with over 300 more beds and over 1,000 more staff – it’s absolutely what local families deserve.
I’ve fought for better schools, safer roads, more housing and new supports for renters, new bus services and 50c fares.
I’ve been proud to deliver cost of living relief for so many in our community with $1000 energy rebates, 20 per cent of car rego and $200 kids sporting vouchers.
This is making a real difference. All of this matters to the people of Waterford, and that’s why it matters to me.
Name: Jacob Heremaia
Age: 25
Occupation: Logan City Councillor.
Party: LNP
Why should people vote for you?
As a local city councillor, I’m proud to listen and to stand up for our great community every day.
For too long, the State Labor Government has taken our area for granted. Let’s get our government working for Waterford.
Like many locals, I started working right out of school.
My first job was washing dishes in a fish and chip shop.
I have worked as a project manager specialising in information technology projects and I was elected to our local city council in 2020. With a proven record in fighting for our area’s needs, I worked with the community to help deliver vital infrastructure upgrades.
As the former Chair of the Procurement and Appropriations Special Committee, I advocated for our city council to spend more money with local business.
We saw our city’s spend with local suppliers increase supporting local jobs and respecting hard-earned money.
Our community is witnessing first-hand the alarming impacts of the Labor government’s failures.
Ambulance ramping at Logan Hospital is at a staggering 64 per cent – almost two in three people arriving in an ambulance are left languishing because Labor has failed our hospitals.
It is clear that our community is paying a high price and we need a change.
I look forward to listening to our community and working for Waterford.
I am proud to be part of David Crisafulli’s State team and I look forward to listening to you and working to deliver solutions on behalf of all residents of the Springwood electorate.
Name: Kirsty Petersen
Age:
Occupation:Â family law mediator
Party:Â Greens
Why should people vote for you?
Kirsty is a family law mediator, mother of 3 and strong community advocate.
She is running because she believes people should be put before profit.
People living in Waterford deserve cheaper groceries, free and accessible healthcare and well-designed homes that are liveable, affordable and accessible.
Labor and the LNP take millions in political donations from big corporations and that’s why they will always put corporations ahead of everyday people.
We need change and it can’t wait another 20 years.
The outer suburbs need better transport infrastructure and investment now.
If you want more for yourself and your children’s future, vote for someone who will fight for a future for all of us — not just profit-grabbing corporations.
Woodridge
Name:Â Cameron Dick (incumbent)
Age:Â 57
Occupation:Â Member of Parliament
Party:Â Labor
Why should people vote for you?
Helping local families with cost-of-living pressures, providing more affordable housing, delivering better local health care and making our community safer has been the focus of my work as the State Member for Woodridge.
This important work will continue if I am privileged to be elected on 26 October. As Deputy Premier and Treasurer, I’ve used new taxes on coal companies to provide $1000 off the power bill of every household in the Woodridge electorate.
The Miles Labor Government has also helped local residents with other cost of living assistance like reducing car registration by 20%, and providing free tools for first year apprentices, free kindy and free TAFE.
If re-elected, our government has pledged to make 50c public transport fares permanent. We will continue to deliver the $1 billion expansion of Logan Hospital which will deliver new wards, more services and over 300 more hospital beds.
I will also deliver a brand-new bus service for Berrinba, and an increase in bus services between Woodridge and Browns Plains.
I’m asking for your support this election, so we can stop the LNP’s cuts to local jobs, health services and schools.
A vote for Labor in this election is a vote to ensure I can deliver on my positive plans for our community’s future, including the better jobs and services that local residents deserve.
Name: Paul Darwen
Age: 53
Occupation: Scientist and Academic
Party: LNP for Woodridge
Why should people vote for you?
Paul Darwen grew up on a mango farm in north Queensland and is passionate about family-owned businesses across Queensland.
After high school, Paul went to Canberra and completed a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics and theoretical physics at the Australian National University.
He followed this with a PhD in artificial intelligence from the University of New South Wales.
He was also a postdoctoral fellow at the Volen National Center for Complex Systems at Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States.
After several years working as an adjunct researcher and in start-ups, Paul followed his passion for teaching and became a lecturer at the James Cook University Brisbane campus. He is currently the Associate Dean of Information Technology, overseeing the Bachelor of IT and Master of IT degrees.
His current research looks at methods of data mining and time-series prediction for problems with limited or noisy data, with applications that include diagnosing rare diseases and predicting extreme weather events like river floods.
Paul has seen Woodridge let down by a decade of Palaszczuk/Miles Labor Government failures.
Crime is out of control, ambulance ramping is at record highs, housing shortages are driving up rents and the cost of living is rising faster than the rest of Australia.
Only by changing the government will we get Queensland heading in the right direction.
Name: Ansary Muhammed
Age: 37
Occupation:Â charity founder
Party:Â Greens
Why should people vote for you?
Ansary is the founder of local charity Merciful Servants and has spent the last 14 years on the streets helping over 200,000 people across Logan and Brisbane, providing them with meals and supporting those sleeping rough.
In all his years, he’s never seen the Logan community struggle as much as they do today. Ansary will fight to address the cost of living emergency and the severe housing crisis.
The people of Woodridge need leadership that better represents them, leadership that listens and leadership that acts in the best interests of people, not corporate profits.
Ansary is advocating for peace and non-violence, tackling the rental crisis by capping rent increases and improving healthcare access by establishing 200 free GP clinics.
Despite all these challenges faced by the community, Ansary is profoundly hopeful for a brighter future.
As an AFL ambassador and youth coach, he’s had the privilege of working with the next generation.
Ansary believes it is our collective duty and responsibility to ensure they inherit a world where they have access to affordable housing, quality education, safe streets, a healthy environment and opportunities that inspire hope, not despair.
Jordan
Name: Charis Mullen (incumbent)
Age: 50
Occupation: Member of Parliament
Party: Australian Labor Party
Why should people vote for you?
As an elected Member, I have listened to and prioritised what matters to my community.
I’m proud of my record having delivered a significant number of projects and services for Jordan. This includes $450,000 clubhouse for the Flagstone Tigers, a new $9.6 million Learning Centre at Flagstone State School, a Primary School in Greenbank (Everleigh State School), expanded OSHC at Greenbank State School (Gumnut House), new field lights for Teviot Downs Soccer Club and Middle Green, and delivered a $33.2 million contribution for two new access roads to Flagstone.
The Miles Labor Government is responding to cost of living pressures with a range of measures, including $1,000 off electricity and 20% off rego – massive saving for locals.
Was proud to deliver the first Translink bus service for Greenbank and Flagstone and have just announced an expansion of this service – increasing frequency for weekdays and Saturdays + a new Sunday service.
If re-elected, I have already committed to: Securing the site for a new High School in Greenbank; $500,000 to begin the planning for a new Flagstone Mixed Use Health Precinct; Progress the Salisbury to Beaudesert Rail Line with consultation on the final corridor and station locations to begin next year.
Name: Kevin Burns
Age: 55
Occupation: Freight Driver
Party: LNP for Jordan
Why should people vote for you?
We have a beautiful community in Jordan, and I’ve always wanted to support that.
As my children grew up, I was heavily involved in my community.
I volunteered across many organisations, including as a junior football coach, on the Richlands East Primary PNC and with the Rural Fire Brigade.
In my professional career, I have spent over two decades as a Line Haul driver. Every week, I see accidents along the Bruce Highway, a road that Labor has allowed to become one of the most dangerous in Australia.
Almost 1 in 5 national road deaths occur on the Bruce Highway. Keeping our community safe is government’s first task and this Labor government has failed.
Locally, I also hear from people in Jordan frustrated by the Labor Government’s neglect of infrastructure in our rapidly growing community. We are taking a huge amount of housing, but
Labor isn’t providing the community infrastructure to go with it.
After a decade of Labor’s failures, it’s time for a change. The only way to address these challenges is to change the government in October.
I’m running to earn my community’s trust and show I’m ready to be part of a government with the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future.
Name: Dung Tran
Age:Â 50
Occupation:Â community worker
Party:Â Greens
Why should people vote for you?
Dung founded and runs Our Race Community, a community-based organisation fighting against racism and building social cohesion in our communities.
Dung puts lived experience front and centre and that drives her passion for justice and equality.
Growing up in Ipswich in the 80s and 90s, she saw the impact of racism and the violence it fuelled on her community and how much work it takes to rebuild those connections.
Dung is passionate about creating spaces where people from historically marginalised communities can come together, share our strengths, and collectively ensure that our skills, experiences, and stories remain ours to share, rather than being taken or misused by others.
She wants our community to thrive and for everyone to have everything they need to live a good life.
But right now, so many people in our community are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis — housing is too expensive, and people are having to choose between buying groceries and having a roof over their head. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
