Plans to develop a health precinct with ambulance, outpatient and childcare to the Flagstone community have been revealed, but its fate hinges on the election outcome and the delivery of a campaign promise.
A $500,000 business case to determine the healthcare services and location of the hub has been promised by the Miles government, if relected.
The mixed-use facility will bring much-needed healthcare to an underserved part of the city, where research shows only one in four GPs in Logan bulk-bill all patients.
A report released earlier this year revealed in the large area of Logan west of Crestmead to the north, and west of Mount Warren Park to the south, there are only three bulk-billing GPs.
According to Jordan MP Charis Mullen, the Flagstone precinct could offer ambulatory care or an urgent care clinic in addition to a range of health services.
“Growing communities like Flagstone deserve health care closer to home, especially for
young families and our older residents,” Ms Mullen said.
“This is an important commitment in planning and progressing health services for the
growing Greater Flagstone community, that will ultimately see 140,000 residents in the
region over the next 20 years.”
“If re-elected, the Miles Government would begin planning a new Flagstone Mixed-Use
Health Precinct,” Ms Mullen said.
“A commitment of $500,000 would see a Business Case completed in 2025 to confirm
the health services required in consultation with the local community, securing a suitable
location within the Flagstone Town Centre and exploring the potential for other
government agencies to co-locate within the Health Mixed Use Precinct.
“This is an important commitment in planning and progressing health services for the
growing Greater Flagstone community, that will ultimately see 140,000 residents in the
region over the next 20 years.”
