Three Logan-based apprentice tradies have been gifted tools by council to kickstart their careers.
Matthew Thompson (apprentice mechanical fitter), Mathew Bond (apprentice plumber) and JD Christ (heavy commercial vehicle mechanic apprentice), were given the tools as part of a pilot program to determine the viability of directly hiring apprentices and trainees into Council’s workforce rather than using third-party organisations.
Currently, employees are required to purchase starter kits for each year of an apprentices training, and this is the first it’s been done by Logan City Council.
Logan mayor, Darren Power, said the skills and qualifications the young men would receive would make them “highly regarded”.
“They develop a good work ethic and learn skills that set them up for lifelong success in their chosen fields,” Cr Power said.
“Council employs around 35 people through this program each year, which is not only building our city’s future skilled workforce, but also encouraging them to aspire to a prosperous future.
“Having a trade can take you far, and we are proud to support the next generation who’ll be looking after our city’s infrastructure for years to come.”
