A 67-apartment building will be constructed at Springwood if a new proposal is approved by the local council.
The development would be built across two blocks along Cinderella Drive.
The application, submitted by Oasis Town Planning, outlines a 10-storey structure including 10 three-bedroom units, 46 two-bedroom units and 11 one-bedroom units, with a cafe on the ground floor.
According to Oasis, the apartment building would enhance the surrounding streetscape and address the current housing shortage.
“By 2041, approximately 89,900 additional dwellings will be needed to house Logan’s expected population growth and demographic change,” the application read.
“Consolidation (previously defined as infill) in existing urban areas will accommodate approximately 19,900 additional dwellings.
“The South East Queensland Regional Plan 2017 (the Plan) identifies the need to accommodate the majority of new growth within existing urban areas through encouraging higher densities in areas that are well serviced by services, facilities and public transport, with the redevelopment of existing centres presenting infill opportunities.”
Oasis town planners say the proposed apartments would provide “unique and attractive residential housing for existing and future residents of Springwood and City of Logan”.
With insufficient parking in the area already a major concern to locals, the development proposal includes basement parking with 93 spaces.
This includes 81 parking spots for residents, six for visitors, four commercial, and two electric vehicle charging spaces.
“Car parking provision for the proposed dwellings is 92 covered car parking spaces for residents and visitor parking spaces, much more than the [Logan City council’s minimum parking requirement,” the application read.
“The proposed development provides 59 bicycle parking spaces, including 10 spaces on the
ground floor.”
The proposed 642sqm commercial space on the ground-floor would foster an active and attractive streetscape, according to Oasis, as well as improve pedestrian connectivity without compromising the existing or future residential amenity of the immediate area.
