Sports awards seek local stars

NOMINATIONS are open for the 2022 City of Logan Sports Awards, with challengers likely to come from the Birmingham Commonwealth Games starting late this month.

The big winner last year, after his bronze medal at the Olympics in the decathlon, was Ash Moloney.

Shannon ‘Shotgun’ O’Connell was sportswoman of the year.

BMX rider Logan Martin was also honoured for his Olympic heroics.

Each year, the awards recognise the outstanding achievements of the City’s elite athletes, teams, coaches and volunteers.

“City of Logan sportspeople never fail to inspire us, whether they are competing on the local, national or international sporting stage,” Cr Laurie Koranski said.

“We are a community that loves to cheer our sporting heroes, and we cannot wait to see them reach new heights again this year.

“If you know an inspiring sportsperson, please consider nominating them for an award.

“Our annual awards ceremony is an important opportunity to not just celebrate our top athletes, coaches and volunteers, but also to encourage grassroots sports in our communities and inspire the champions of tomorrow.”
