Sport brings people together

Many will have had eyes glued to the television over the past week, watching our heroes in the pool, and more recently our own gold medalist Logan Martin in the freestyle BMX.

As lockdown kicks in, we find ourselves looking for something to cheer us up, and sport has that ability.

We are proud of our success stories, and so we should be. They are the ones who can inspire us to be positive, and in some cases are the ones who lead our youth to greatness.

Logan has a proud sporting history. And that continues with a number of elite programs in local schools.

While every cliche known to broadcasting has been uttered during the Olympics, it is true that sport can unite and bond communities.

It is a reminder for us to support our sporting clubs, and to offer a pat on the back to the many volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure children and adults alike are able to hit the fields every weekend.

To the officials, we thank you for your dedication to the sporting codes you love.

Coaches share knowledge with their charges. They also share in the emotional roller coaster ride that comes with sport – the winning, the losing, the injuries and the ambition.

As a community, we congratulate those who have been successful. But we also thank those who allow everyone to participate.

There will be many young people looking towards the 2032 Olympics with a view to compete. It is up to us to give them every opportunity and to ensure they’re able to enjoy the journey.
