STATE government ministers have turned the sod on a social housing developent that is set to provide 35 homes for people in need.
Springwood MP Mick de Brenni said the project was for people who needed housing support as they aged, and would help people remain connected to the Springwood neighbourhood.
This meant the local community retained their experience and goodwill.
“I am incredibly proud that we live in an inclusive community, one where we support the right of those of us who are in need of housing support to be able to live right here in Springwood,” Mr de Brenni said.
“Locals are always telling me how important it is that we contribute to build on our record of delivering over 4000 homes for Queensland families, including some of the most vulnerable people in our community.”
Housing minister and Algester MP Leeanne Enoch said the developments put the government on track to meet a target of almost 3000 Quickstarts Qld commencements by June 30, 2025.
“The first year of Quickstarts Qld was focused on identifying areas of housing need in the state and suitable sites for construction of new social housing projects,” Ms Enoch said.
“We are forging ahead with our program of delivering more social housing across the state.
“Our almost $4 billion for social and affordable housing is the largest concentrated investment in Queensland’s history,” Ms Enoch said.
“This investment means we are housing more vulnerable Queenslanders sooner. In fact, we will have commenced 13,000 new social and affordable homes by 2027.”
