Slacks Creek man charged after alleged homemade firearm found

A Slacks Creek man, 43, has been charged after police allegedly found a homemade firearm inside a hotel in Newtown, Toowoomba, early this morning.

Officers were conducting handheld metal detector scans under Jack’s Law when they intercepted the man in a gaming area of a premises on Anzac Avenue about 12.50am on 30 April.

Police allege the man became uncooperative during the scan before removing a suspicious object from his pants and throwing it.

A subsequent search of the area allegedly uncovered a homemade firearm.

The man has been charged with unlawful possession of weapons, carrying a weapon in a public place while loaded, authority required to possess explosives, and obstructing police.

He is expected to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on 20 May.
