Shailer Park home among oldest in suburb

Bob Kosik and his family were one of just two homeowners in Shailer Park during the 1980s.

Mr Kosik and his family bought a 2317sqm block of land on what is now 4-6 Parkview Crescent in 1983, and are the home’s first and only owners.

They designed and constructed the property to suit their family’s wants and needs.

“We have two kids, and we had a lot of friends, so we built the property with a swimming pool, tennis court, backyard, and outdoor area for parties and so on,” Mr Kosik said.

“It was built for a purpose; we’ve always played tennis.

“They [Mr Kosik’s children] are hoping to beat us in a tennis match one day, but they haven’t done it yet.”

In the last three years, the house has undergone renovations to its three bathrooms, including retiling and the installation of new showers and toilets, Mr Kosik said.

Mr Kosik said he didn’t think there were any properties similar to 4- 6 Parkview Crescent in Shailer Park, due to the block’s size and the amenities it offers.

The residence has seven bedrooms, and multiple living spaces including a rumpus room and formal dining area.

Outside the house, a tennis court, in-ground pool, and paved patio for entertaining were especially built for the family.

When the house was built, it was one of only two in the suburb, Mr Kosik said.

Shailer Park has changed a lot in that time, Mr Kosik said.

He and his family had moved to the suburb for a quieter lifestyle, and thought the large land block would be enough to avoid the area becoming more dense.

Mr Kosik said he thought a range of demographics could suit the property, including investors, young families, those looking for multi-generational living accommodations, and tennis enthusiasts.

“It depends on what people are looking for and how they’d like to live,” he said.

“We wanted to build a tennis court; we always had, and the land was a good size at that time.”

Mr Kosik, the local schools, which both his kids attended, and the nearby shopping facilities were great and handy.
