Seasons Living Waterford West, a senior’s residential estate, has invited the public to its Queensland Seniors Month celebrations.
In addition to the events, Seasons Living is also hosting a ‘Conversations’ interview series to encourage social connections between seniors.
The first conversation was between Australian Olympic swimmer and Seasons Living ambassador Brendon Smith, and Waterford West resident Robin Gallen OAM.
Ms Gallen has long served the Logan community as a volunteer and was awarded an Order of Australia medal for her dedication to, and service in, community health.
The two spoke about their shared interests in swimming, and their heroes: Ian Thorpe and Grant Hackett for Mr Smith, and Dawn Fraser for Ms Gallen, who she described as a wonderful role model for seniors today.
Seasons Living CEO Jodie Gaske said the interview initiative was chose to reflect the Seniors Month theme of “social connections”.
“There is no denying the importance of feeling socially connected because when we are, we have a healthy sense of identity, feel a greater sense of belonging and have greater confidence in accessing resources,” she said.
“In fact, having healthy social connections contributes to our overall health and wellbeing.”
Queensland Seniors Month was originally “Old People’s Week” in October 1960.
The statewide celebration is now a month-long event beginning on Sunday 1 October and running through to the 31 October.
