Young bookworms in Logan can help save the environment thanks to a new initiative at local libraries.
This summer, one tree will be planted in Logan for every 100 books read – with a maximum of 1000 trees to plant.
The reading program runs from 2 December to 28 February and will culminate in a special planting day.
Mayor Jon Raven said he loved the idea of encouraging young people to read while helping to green the city.
“We know that young people are often mindful of the environment and nature,” he said.
“By connecting reading for pleasure with trees that can literally grow up with the young person we are creating a legacy for the city and the community.”
The Logan Art Gallery will also have a program for local youth this school holidays that will run from 7 January to 17 January.
This will enable participants to create animal-inspired painted magnets, large-bird scale paintings, animals in acrylic paint and birds in charcoal and collage.
For more information and to book into the sessions, visit the what’s on section on the gallery’s page at loganarts.com.au
A free interactive program will also operate at Logan Art Gallery between 10am and 2pm from 22 January to 24 January 24 as part of the Queensland Art Gallery’s Gallery of Modern Art regional touring project.
Bookings are not required for this program as unlimited spaces are available.
