Scam alert: Impersonating Department of Home Affairs staff

The Australian Communications and Media Authority is receiving reports of scammers impersonating staff from the Department of Home Affairs. These scammers may:

  • threaten you with arrest
  • say you are being investigated for criminal activities
  • claim your identity has been stolen.

They are trying to get your personal details or money. If you receive such a call, do not share any personal information and hang up immediately.

Government agencies will not threaten you or ask for immediate payments over the phone.
