San Damiano on track for January 27 launch

NEW schools in the Logan region are on track to open as planned on January 27.

San Damiano College at Yarrabilba has been on a tight construction schedule, but all seems to be going to plan with the main buildings up, and fit-out under completion.

The school’s manager Philip Knoblanche said a pop-up uniform shop would open soon, and there would be more than 75 students in the school’s first year – exactly the number the school was hoping for.

“Parents have been coming to see us since May or June, 2020, which is a sign that they really care about the development of the school,” Mr Knoblanche said.

“Yarrabilba is thriving, and we see the number of families at community events such as the Mingle Markets. We are excited about what 2021 will bring the school and the surrounding community. We’re definitely ready to go, and can’t wait to get started.”

Meanwhile, a new state primary school at North Maclean is on target to start construction this year.

She said the first sod would be turned soon, and the school opened January 2022.

“These schools will not only provide students with a world-class education but construction will ensure local tradies can continue to work as we recover from COVID-19,” Ms Grace said.

She said the North Maclean primary school was being built to meet increased demand in a high growth area.

“This $73 million school in North Maclean will accommodate for the growing number of school-aged children in the Greenbank community,” Ms Grace said.

“The school will be located on the corner of Ivory Parkway and Leanne Court, servicing families living in Mirvac’s Everleigh housing development and the surrounding areas.

“Stage 1 of the new school will include an admin block, library, multi-purpose hall, prep and junior learning areas, amenities, canteen and covered areas.”
