Motorhome ‘garages’ are the newest trend in retirement housing, and it’s only a matter of time before Logan gets them too.
Tony Pennisi from The Property Hub in Beenleigh said motorhomes have become popular since Covid.
“Motorhomes have become super popular in the last couple of years and the appetite for Australians to see our country since Covid has begun, has been the driving force,” he said.
“With all of the bad weather we have been having most insurance companies will only insure vehicles if they are under cover and locked away.”
“These garages are simply built to accommodate any legal motorhome or off-road caravan sold in Australia.”
Mr Pennisi said the buyers of these homes, with motorhome garages, are usually 55 or older.
“Buyers generally for these homes are seeking a tree change or have had a significant life event and take the time to make changes, like retirement, empty nesters or health issues,” he said.
“Most of the buyers are in the 55 plus age group and we have sold a lot of these homes to buyers looking to downsize.”
“A lot of buyers are coming from Brisbane and the Gold Coast seeking locations that are affordable, and to be within striking distance to family and relatives.”
Logan builder, Jason Bente said it won’t be long before Logan sees these types of homes.
“With their increasingly popularity, it’s only a matter of time,” he said.
“People are always after extra space to park cars, caravans and even boats and normal suburban garages are just too small for things like that, something like this would be a big selling point.”
Mr Bente said motorhome garages would add re-sale value to a home.
“Whether you buy a home with this garage feature or have on built into your existing home, it is a great idea and would add a lot of resale value to your home,” he said.
“Personally, I think they are a great idea. Many retirement-age home buyers are seeking things like this to add that extra convenience to their lifestyle.”
