Rest in peace, Chris Murphy

I am writing to honour the life of Chris Murphy, a former Logan City cououncillor, who has died aged 70, after being ill for some time.

I met Chris, through the Labor party, in the 1980s and we became loyal friends, through victories and disappointments.

He was a foundation member of the Logan Hospital Auxiliary, even though the hospital was yet to be built.

The council at that time also paved the way for the original restoration of the Kingston Butter Factory.

The Logan we enjoy today owes much to early residents like the Murphys, who played an invaluable role when many calls for help would have been unanswered, except for a caring community doing as much as possible for each other.

Chris saw beyond the basics of roads, rates and rubbish, and I’ll always remember him for the three L’s…Logan, Labor and Laughter.

Thanks mate. Rest in peace.

Paul Wincen,

Alexandra Hills
