As your community newspaper, it is always important for us to be in contact with the right people who have their feelers deep into the echo-system which makes our suburbs tick.
This week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the wonderful crew at the Logan Hospital where something in the vicinity of $460 million is being spent on expansion.
The carpark will rise to eight storeys, and the main wing of the hospital will also add four storeys to its existing four levels.
The hospital is the local definition of “resilience”. Staff remain friendly and most importantly, committed to change as the hospital develops, despite having been through the roughest of years during a pandemic.
I also sat with regional chief superintendent of police Brian Swan and some of his terrific team.
Police have a tough gig, and their commitment is very much to connect with the community on all levels. Road safety, drug control, violence and general safety high on the radar.
Logan Chamber of Commerce had its Christmas party, and they’ve grown from strength to strength, now with more than 200 members.
The chamber will be forming branches which ensure the interests of particular industries are cared for during the coming year as we strive for economic recovery.
The more people we know who have keys to the city, the stronger we become as a voice for you, our readers.
Our mission is to be truly representative of our community – the remarkable good within it, the occasional ugly side, and the issues which need to be thrashed out in an open forum.
