Raising chickens in the middle of suburbia

In the middle of suburbia, five chickens and the keys to the house will be left to the new owners of 177-119 Boxer Avenue in Shailer Park.

Selling agent Alex Simule from LJ Hooker said the chooks produce up to eight eggs a day and have been valued companions for current owners, who won’t be able to transport them to their new home.

Mr Simule said 117 – 119 Boxer Avenue is a property typical of the Shailer Park area and would suit a growing family due to its five bedrooms, two bathrooms, backyard, and outdoor entertaining areas.

The property’s lower level, which sets it apart from other properties, has the potential to be used for several purposes, Mr Simule said.

“There’s potential to have a granny flat under the house, or at the back of the house as well, because there is plenty of room,” Mr Simule said.

“They have a lot of room for parking in the garage as well, motor homes, caravan trailers, multiple cars, or a boat could be stored there.

“For people who love fishing, they can put a fishing boat in the garage or on the side of the house, those kinds of things people look for because not every property has them.”

For this reason, investors, from interstate or local suburbs, have shown a keen interest in the property already.

Mr Simule said the interstate investors he had spoken to regarding this property were eager to purchase in the southeast Queensland area before the Brisbane Olympics scheduled for 2032.

“A lot of investors want to be ready before the time the Olympics will be held,” Mr Simule said.

“Buyers are under pressure because there are not many listings, and buyers are under pressure to secure properties in Queensland.”

The kitchen and one of the two bathrooms underwent renovations about seven years ago, since the original build more than 30 years ago.

Solar panels, about 20, on the roof and the space for two generators under the house ensure reliable power and cheaper bills, Mr Simule said.

“There are two spaces for generators in case the power runs out or is cut off, which did happen in the big storm earlier this year,” he said.
