A Greenbank house rented out as an Airbnb is proving popular among interstate buyers looking for their own short-stay investment, according to a local sales agent.
All Properties Group’s Dhimitri Xhaho said Airbnb’s in the Greenbank area were not very common, but this particular property – 16-28 Cheviot Street – was booked out several months in advance.
The block’s current owners rake in up to $180,000 per year renting it out on Airbnb.
“It’s booked out for months ahead, they host events night by night as well, and they get a lot of bookings for that too,” Mr Xhaho said.
“It’s mostly families that stay there or people coming out to the area for weddings, that kind of stuff.
“They’re returning close to $180,000 a year from that property, which is paying off their mortgage.”
Now the property is up for sale, Mr Xhaho said interested buyers had so far almost all been from Australia’s southern states.
“We do get the odd family who is interested, but the majority of the interest and inquiries have been southerners and investors.
“There has been a bit more interest from the southern states than usual over the last six months.”
A steady increase in interest from southern property buyers, looking for better prices and weather, has been felt across Logan over the past six months, Mr Xhaho said.
“It’s special in its own respect; the home is really well laid out, and it can accommodate up to 16 people.
“It has a converted shed which is now a granny flat, a pool, spa, and a little outdoor playing area, all on a good block of land with a few dams.
“It is a beautiful property that holds a lot of character, and from the Airbnb potential of it, it’s one of a kind in that aspect.”
The earning potential of the property due to its success on Airbnb partly explains the interest from out-of-towners, Mr Xhaho said.
“A lot of southerners are inquiring and also investors because of the potential,” he said.
“It’s a property that holds a lot of character, it’s in really good condition, and it’s well maintained.”
While Airbnb refuses to say how many registered Airbnbs there are in Logan, there can be anywhere from 380 to 500 properties across the city available on the company’s app, depending on the time of year.
