Rail trail opens first 3.5km

The long-planned 3.5km Logan Village to Yarrabilba Rail Trail opened on Friday, linking Logan Village Green to Buxton Park via Blossom St in Yarrabilba.

The $2.6 million trail winds through bushland and includes 2.5km of asphalt pathway designed for walking, jogging, hiking and horse riding.

A business study has been finished, which would see the de-commissioned Bethania to Beaudesert rail corridor be further utilised, right through to Bethania and beyond.

Friday’s opening saw a sign at the entrance feature repurposed ironwork, originally crafted by local blacksmith Alan Ball for the old bandstand at the Logan Village Green.

Other parts of the ironwork include designs by local artists that reference the original train line, river barges, a nearby former WWII army base and local fauna and flora.

Deputy mayor Jon Raven said: “It is expected to help boost the local economy while local residents can also use the
rail trail for exercise, relaxing and enjoying the natural environment.”
