Suicide prevention charity, R U OK?, will hold a series of community events in Logan as part of regional outreach efforts to “inspire and equip” locals with the tools to discuss mental health.
From 11 am on Wednesday 11 June at Kingston’s Multicultural Sports Centre, a barbeque and information session with R U OK? staff, local support services, and Logan residens will be held.
Resources and information on how to identify and support someone experiencing mental health challenges will be available.
The mental health advocacy organisation encourages individuals to start conversations about mental health by asking others if they are ok and creating a sense of belonging in communities.
R U OK? Day is held annually on the second Thursday in September. The organisation was founded in 2009 by Gavin Larkin, who lost his father to suicide in 1995.
From 1 January to 31 March 2025, 184 Queenslanders have died from suicide, according to data released in the Queensland Mental Health Commission’s monthly suicide reports.
