A husband and wife team who spent six years renovating their ideal family home have taken a surprise turn and put it up for sale.
Kelly and Luke Penny did not expect to sell when they first bought 7 Lutea Close and started ripping it apart in 2015.
“Originally we did the house up ourselves and made it how we wanted,” Mrs Penny said.
“We knew the only way to get a decent size was to renovate, and we picked this particular property because of the two driveways.”
A week after signing the contract, they found out they were expecting child number three, so their renovations suddenly turned into a marathon.
The two of them own a roof restoration company, while Mrs Penny also has her own homewares business on the side, and they watch shows like The Block religiously.
This creative combination led them down the path of renovating.
Now at the finish line, they are ready to handover 7 Lutea Close to a new loving owner.
“We wanted to present the house in its best form and we’re proud of what we’ve done,” Mrs Penny said.
The change of heart came two years ago when Mr Penny suffered a serious accident while working as a roofer and they were forced to revaluate their lifestyle.
“He came off the roof and broke his back, but since then we’ve been looking for a bit more out of life,” she said.
This meant putting on the line everything they worked so hard to create with their home at 7 Lutea Close.
In June this year, they bought a caravan after falling in love with the idea of living on the road during a recent road trip.
“Luke thought we could do this caravan life full time and travel Australia,” Mrs Penny said.
And now this opportunity is becoming real.
Last weekend they picked up their new home on wheels, which they plan on making their abode for the next year while they travel around Australia.
“I earned good money doing what I do, but I need to take this time to build some bonds for the family and get some inspiration to do something new when we return,” Mr Penny said.
When they leave depends on whenever a contract settles.
“We leave when the house sells and our first place to go will be Hervey Bay to help a mate redo a car,” she said.
“After that it really depends on what the government restrictions are.
“We are more than happy to explore Queensland if that’s safest for our family because there’s still heaps to do here that we haven’t done.”
Ray White Marsden selling agent Jess Nguyen said the couple has finished the property superbly top-to-toe.
“It is the best renovator I have ever seen, and they have utilised the space really well,” she said.
The home already has 14 offers and one viewing. In 2015 when the Pennys purchased, it was valued around $380,000, up from $210,000 in 2003.
The asking price today will be much higher.
“I think the owners are going to fall off their seat when they see some of the prices being put forward by the buyers,” Ms Nguyen said.
“But we want to wait because in this market you just don’t know if it’s the best price.”
The home has a spacious open-planned kitchen-diner adjoining the living room. These spaces flow outside into a covered entertainment area, with a timber clad wall featuring a recessed television unit, overlooking the pool area.
In addition to the carport, there is a large detached garage which can be converted into a workspace or fifth bedroom.
