Police declare emergency in Loganlea, over the weekend

Police made an emergency declaration in Loganlea over the weekend after a man, whom police wanted to speak with, allegedly barricaded himself in a house on Sylvia Street.

Police made the declaration, under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA), at 4.16pm on Sunday, 1 March, after attending the Sylvia Street residence an hour earlier at 3.15pm.

As a result, residents in Sylvia Street, Dianne Street, Hedley Street, and Sturdee Street were urged to stay indoors. Members of the public were told to avoid the area.

Police revoked the declaration at 6.32pm on Sunday, half an hour after they arrested the man.

No one was injured during the incident. Police said their investigations into the matter were ongoing.
