Penny drops during council budget

The penny seems to have dropped for Logan City Council.

They’ve realised that we, as their constituents, don’t have to be wowed by big shiny things all the time.

Yes, it’s nice to live in a city with a modern-looking entertainment centre, libraries, an art gallery and now an outdoor entertainment precinct.

But the only thing most residents and ratepayers want is to see their council taking care of the important things – roads, rates and rubbish.

We want neat parks, rubbish picked up on time and roads without potholes, especially after all the rain we’ve had.

The recent budget as reported in your newspaper (MyCity Logan, June 21-27) seems to tick all the right boxes.

And notably, they’re putting a good portion of their energy into lobbying the state and federal governments for the money to build big important projects.

Any money that council spends is directly from us, the ratepayers of the city. So it’s nice to see them being a little frugal when the time is right.

Maybe it’s a good thing the state government took a broom to the place.
