PCYC Crestmead benefits from state wide funding blitz

Crestmead’s Police Citizens’ Youth Club (PCYC) has undergone $1 million worth of renovations that will help local young people reingage with social sports.

Physical spaces, like a dedicated youth space which will be used for boxing sessions and the After Dark program, which is a free sports-based program for young people to attend after school and work hours, have been added to the club.

PCYC Queensland’s CEO Phil Schultz said the renovations would improve the Crestmead services, which are already widely attended, particularly by young people.

“These upgrades will allow more young people to enjoy the great things After Dark and our other youth programs have to offer,” Mr Schultz said.

“After Dark is an extremely popular program, offering young people a positive space to spend time making connections and playing sport in a semi-structured program.”

Minister for Sport and Racing Tim Mander said it was important for young people to engage in sport, which the upgrades reflect.

“We know how important sport is in the lives of our young people and this new space will create more opportunities for them to engage in sporting programs and after-school activities,” Mr Mander said.

“Our PCYCs offer quality facilities and programs which provide transformative opportunities for people of all ages.”

PCYC locations across Queensland are expected to receive a $73.7 million funding injection this year from the state government to improve their facilities and program delivery.

Mr Schultz said this funding would make the club’s services accessible to the public, which he hopes will have a positive impact on the community.

“This is an exciting time for PCYC Queensland, as this unprecedented investment means that we can deliver our programs and activities to even more people and extend our reach to even more communities,” he said.
