Once a month, keen local artists, old pros and novices alike, meet at the Logan Art Gallery to draw live models in a life drawing session.
Councillor Teresa Lane said the Logan Art Gallery had a “proud history” of delivering creative workshops like life drawing, which is a foundational practice in art education.
Professional artists, many of whom have artwork on display in the Logan gallery as well as employees from the council’s Creative Industries Team, deliver the program to a group of up to 20 attendees.
“The life drawing workshops have fostered artistic exploration, developed skills, and connected the community,” Cr Lane said.
“It helps artists to improve their observation skills, learn more about human anatomy, and refine their artistic skills.
“By offering these sessions, the gallery supports local artists in their professional growth and enriches the cultural fabric of the community.”
Several art workshops have been added to the gallery’s program this year, coinciding with their 30th anniversary.
Artist-led workshops, like the monthly life drawing sessions, intergenerational events, advanced photography, and pre-school clay bird sessions have been added to include a diverse range of participants and encourage people from all skill levels to attend.
“Most workshops accommodate up to 20 participants, which allows for a hands-on, personalised experience,” Cr Lane said.
“Workshops such as Visual Journaling with Christina Lowry, Linocut with Logan Community Printmakers, and Life Drawing Sessions have consistently been booked out.
“Our goal is to make art accessible, relevant, and a part of everyday life in Logan.”
Cr Lane said councils and galleries across south east Queensland also offer life drawing sessions and classes as part of their public programs, and that the community feedback the council has received from the public has been overwhelmingly positive.
