Pantry demand leads to expansion

A FOOD outlet at Authentic Church, Meadowbrook, has seen first hand the tough times caused by rising costs of living.

The outlet on church premises has more than doubled in size and recently re-opened its doors.

Grocery items are sourced from Foodbank Australia and other outlets at a low cost which is passsed on to consumers.

The church puts together hampers which are handed out to people in need.

The revamped outlet carries all types of items including meat, cereals, snacks, fruit and vegetables, drinks and bathroom essentials.

Shop convenor Melanie Stevenson said while the shop helped those who were struggling with day-to-day expenses, the doors were open to anyone.

“Cost of living impacts everyone, so we don’t discriminate against anyone,” she said.

“Everyone is welcome here, and people need to understand that if they’re shopping here – whoever they are – they’re helping us to turn over stock and to help more people in need.”

The shop is at 350 Loganlea Rd.
