Cornubia homeowner Kathy Weiland said the natural surroundings of her house enticed her to buy the house nearly three years ago.
The view from the living area and balcony, which looks directly into dense greenery, creates the impression of being in a treehouse rather than a typical suburban home, Ms Weiland said.
“As soon as you walk in and look out the back, it’s just trees everywhere,” she said. “It feels like you’re in your own private cubby house.”
The split-level house at 13 Excalibur Road, built in the 1990s, is designed to face the surrounding vegetation.
From the street, the house appears relatively modest, Ms Weiland said, but the interior opens up with cathedral ceilings and living spaces positioned to look out toward the trees.
A balcony wraps around part of the home and connects to a narrow walkway, creating outdoor areas where wildlife regularly appears.
Ms Weiland said native birds were a constant presence around the property.
“We have king parrots that come and sit on the balcony, and there’s a magpie that walks into the house and looks around like it owns the place,” she said.
“You hear all kinds of birds singing.”
During the time Ms Weiland has lived at the property, she has made several changes to improve the layout and accessibility of the property, including adding an extra room, paving the pathway that runs around the house to the pool area and expanding the master bedroom to create a larger wardrobe.
“I made the biggest master bedroom and wardrobe I could,” she said.
“I love clothes, so I needed a giant cupboard.”
The house features timber floors, slate tiles and a fireplace, contributing to what Ms Weiland described as a less conventional interior style.
She said the property stood out from other homes in the suburb because of its design and setting.
“It’s not typical,” she said. “If you want something really modern and clinical, this probably isn’t the house for you.”
Ms Weiland said the home may suit buyers who value privacy and nature, or those looking for something different from a standard suburban property.
