By Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce president Kerrie Saverin
As we wrapped up another year at the Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce, our Annual General Meeting was an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved and, importantly, look at what our business community needs from us next.
There is no question businesses are operating in challenging times. Rising costs, changing consumer behaviour and the cost of doing business are being felt across our region. I believe this is exactly when a strong and active chamber matters most.
I am incredibly proud to work alongside a board bringing experience, fresh ideas and a genuine commitment to our region.
Rebecca Cobbing joins me as vice president, Scott Petrie as secretary and Michelle Meurs as treasurer, supported by Heather Christensen, John Mulraney, Lee Tucker, Kylie Slater, Aki Sihto and Olivia Moroney.
Our focus for the year ahead is not simply about holding events. It is about listening to businesses, creating meaningful connections, providing opportunities and ensuring our local business community has a strong voice.
Over the past year we have introduced different ways for businesses to connect, including business breakfasts, coffee connections, after dark events and our first Ormeau business mixer.
We have continued investing in our future through the Young Business Leaders Program and Junior Chamber, strengthening connections between our schools, young people and local businesses.
Prawn Day 2026 was another wonderful example of what can happen when business and community come together, attracting around 480 people and raising $21,515 for our community.
As we look ahead, businesses need more than networking. They need information, advocacy, collaboration and opportunities to talk openly with others experiencing the same pressures.
That is the chamber we want to continue building.
Whatever the coming year brings, our board is ready to listen, advocate and work alongside local businesses to ensure the Beenleigh Yatala region continues moving forward.
