OPINION | New Logan Chamber of Commerce committee

By Logan Chamber of Commerce president Justine Sandry

The Logan Chamber of Commerce has a new committee: so what does that mean for local business?

At the chamber’s annual general meeting on Wednesday 14 October, members elected the team that will lead the organisation through the year ahead.

On behalf of the chamber, thank you to Arwen McGregor for her leadership as president.

I step into the role now, having served as treasurer and acting secretary over the past year.

Joining me on the management committee are Travis Windsor as vice president, Shelley Murphy as secretary and Nicola Brown as treasurer.

Rounding out the committee are Zakaria Amin, Kathy Shanks, Jo Connolly, Sandra Price and Tony Holt.

That’s nine local business people, each volunteering their time because they believe in Logan.

Running a business is demanding enough without committee work on top. Every one of them has chosen to give back anyway.

The new committee is taking a shared approach to leadership, built on a simple idea: a chamber is only as strong as the people sharing the load.

When a few people carry everything, they burn out. When the work is shared, the whole organisation grows.

For members, that means more of what makes the chamber worth joining.

Monthly member events will keep bringing business owners together to connect, learn and do business with one another.

The Logan Business Distinction Awards will continue to celebrate the people and businesses that make the city tick.

And the chamber will keep advocating for local business, making sure Logan’s voice is heard at every level of government.

For business owners who aren’t yet members, the question is simple: what could they gain by being in the room?

Referrals, partnerships and good advice often start with a conversation over breakfast that nobody expected to have.

Logan is growing fast, and so are the opportunities for the businesses that call it home.

The ones that thrive will be the ones that are connected.

Business owners are encouraged to come along to an event, say hello to a committee member, and see what the chamber can do for them.

After all, if we don’t back Logan business, who will?
