By Logan Mayor Jon Raven
Last week, we took an important step in getting flood mapping right for Logan.
At a Special Council meeting on Tuesday, your councillors and I voted on how we will implement major changes to mapping and planning policy that would more than halve the number of properties affected by the flood overlay mapping.
These changes were shaped directly by your feedback and were informed by independent technical advice and state government guidance.
We heard from thousands of people during consultation on the draft Logan Plan in 2025 about our flood mapping.
Now we’re putting your feedback into action.
To deliver these improvements sooner while we continue working on the Logan Plan, we’ve developed a Temporary Local Planning Instrument (TLPI) which will now be submitted to the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning for consideration and approval.
If approved, we expect these changes to take effect in early 2027.
Once the TLPI takes effect, we expect the overall number of properties affected by flood overlay mapping to reduce by 56.8%.
This week we’ll consider a report on proposed changes for the Logan Flood Portal.
This addresses community feedback and aims to make flood information easier to understand and access. I’ll keep you updated on the outcome.
Until then, council is continuing to review the submissions we received during the Logan Plan consultation and we’re progressing further work on creek mapping, which is expected to be completed in 2027.
Progress updates are available on council’s website through the Logan Plan project page: logan.qld.gov.au/loganplan
