After almost a week in hospital, Eagleby toddler Jackson had missed his daycare’s Book Week celebration.
Then Spider-Man walked past his bed.
Joined by The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the Three Little Pigs and other beloved characters, the superhero was part of a special parade organised for young patients at Logan Hospital.
Jackson could barely contain his excitement as the characters passed through the Children’s Inpatient Unit—but Spider-Man was the clear favourite.
The parade was created for children whose hospital stays meant they could not join their classmates and friends for one of the biggest events on the early learning calendar.
Nurse Unit manager Emma Flannelly said Book Week was an exciting occasion for many children, and hospital staff wanted to bring some of that magic to their young patients’ bedsides.
“We know what a big event Book Week is for children and how disappointed our patients are to have missed out,” she said.
“Hosting a hospital parade seemed like a good way to brighten up the ward, and the team was excited by the chance to dress up and make their patients smile.”
Ms Flannelly and the onsite education team from Queensland Children’s Hospital School organised the staff parade, with hospital workers jumping at the chance to bring their favourite characters to life.
For Jackson and the other young patients, the celebration offered a welcome break from their hospital stays and a chance to enjoy some of the Book Week fun they had missed.
For a little while, Logan Hospital’s children’s ward became a storybook—and one Eagleby toddler received a special visit from his favourite superhero.
