No bad time to declare healthy choices

Unlike calling an election or declaring in the cricket, there is no bad time when it comes to getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

Whether you need your booster, your second dose, or even a first jab in your arm, it’s never too late to vaccinate.

The facts speak for themselves. You’re more likely to get COVID, spread COVID and be hospitalised by COVID if you’re unvaccinated.

The vaccine is free. It works. And with the virus spreading rapidly it’s vital as many Queenslanders as possible are protected.

With our statewide double vax rate for those aged 16 and over approaching 90 per cent, boosters are now priority for the vast majority of us.

Boosters are available at pharmacies, chemists, medical centres, local GPs, community health facilities, and our larger vaccination hubs.

You can confirm your appointment online via qld.gov.au (search ‘Boosters’) or findapharmacy.com.au, and get your dose anywhere, not just the place you received your primary course of the vaccine.

If you’re over 18 and had your second dose more than four months ago, it’s time to book your booster.

And you can still do this at Logan Entertainment Centre, a venue that was central to getting our vax rates where they needed to be last year.

LEC is continuing to operate as a walk-in vaccination hub until 27 January, and I want to thank Logan Mayor Darren Power and his council team for their assistance in ensuring this is possible.

It has been great to work alongside council, and I want to acknowledge the fantastic work of Logan City Council throughout this pandemic.

Working together is the only way we’re going to beat this virus.

COVID vaccinations are also now available to children aged five to 11, so for all the parents and carers in our community, you can get your child protected ahead of the school year.

These bookings can be made via vaccinebookings.health.qld.gov.au.

And if you contract COVID-19 or are showing symptoms, it’s vital you know who to contact, ways to get the items you need, and how to look after yourself during your isolation period.

Our government has all this information available on the Queensland Government website (search ‘I have COVID’), or you can call 134 COVID (134 268) around the clock.
