IF it seems like there are more police officers around, it might because there are new recruits in town.
Minister for Police Mark Ryan and deputy commissioner Stephan Gollschewski inducted 13 officers who’ll be making their way to Logan stations.
Over the next 12 months, they’ll be undergoing station-based training at Beenleigh (two trainees), Browns Plains (2), Crestmead (2), Jimboomba (2), Logan Central (4) and Springwood (1).
The cohort has spent the past six months at the academy and will now undertake a further 12 months of station-based training as FYCs, which sees them assessed on their management of a range of real-world policing scenarios.
Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski said he was pleased to welcome recruits who all had their own backgrounds and life experiences which would be their greatest assets while policing Queensland.
“It is what’s on the inside that makes an incredible police officer,” he said.
“With career backgrounds as diverse as child safety and disability support officers, park rangers, pilots, paramedics and even, a QPS communications operator, the range of skills our newest officers have from previous careers and life experiences will only add to the mosaic of skills they can use to serve and protect Queensland.
“Every little thing our officers graduating today have learnt, dealt with, experienced, and survived is what will make them a great police officer for the QPS.
“I wish luck to all our new officers graduating today and am confident they will uphold the values expected of a police officer in Queensland.”
Minister Ryan thanked the graduates for making the choice to undertake a policing career.
“Our newest FYCs are commencing their service at a pivotal time for the QPS and the Queensland community as a whole,” Minister Ryan said.
“Our Queensland police officers keep communities safe, and each of these officers graduating today has now undertaken their commitment to deliver the very best service to the people of Queensland.
“It is always exciting to witness the next step in the journey of these new officers, and I thank each of today’s graduates for stepping up to their roles and bringing their own perspectives and life experiences to enrich the QPS.”
