This is a special time of year for many members of our community, whether Christmas, Bodhi Day, or Hanukkah.
But, it is also a time when many members of our community are most at need.
So, I thank everyone who is helping to support those members of our community.
2023 has been a big year for Woodridge, a big year for Logan, and a big year for Queensland.
We stand on the cusp of even bigger things and opportunities in 2024.
One of the great strengths of our Logan community is our diversity.
In the rich tapestry of cultures, faiths, and worldviews, cultivating respect and understanding of these differences is critical.
We come from so many places, but we are united in these aspirations for ourselves and each other.
As with many areas across the State, fulfilling one of these aspirations of owning your own home is quite difficult in Logan.
I want to see home ownership rates in Logan continue to rise, which is why our government is stepping up to lend a helping hand.
Our government has consistently said we would use every available lever to increase the supply of housing.
With signs the capacity constraints around the residential housing market are easing, now was the time to act.
The existing First Home Owner Grant has been very successful, but as the cost to build or buy increases so should the incentive.
That’s why our government is doubling the grant program – meaning eligible first home owners will receive $30,000 support.
This boost to the grant will run until June 30, 2025 and applies to buying or building a new home valued under $750,000.
I hope this puts the dream of owning a first home within reach of more people in Logan.
I wish every a safe, happy and joyous festive season.
