New Beenleigh station plans revealed as consultation opens

Plans for a new Beenleigh train station precinct have been released for community consultation, with the facility set to move closer to the town centre under a major rail upgrade.

The proposed station would shift about 650 metres north, to between Zander and Victoria streets near Beenleigh Town Square and the Magistrates Court, placing it closer to shops, schools and services.

The redesign forms part of the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project, which includes duplicating tracks between Kuraby and Beenleigh to increase capacity and improve reliability for services between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

A Transport and Main Roads spokesman said the project would “improve safety, accessibility, and connections to the town centre and key community facilities.”

Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg said the updated design aimed to improve connections for commuters.

“We said we would build a more reliable transport network for Queensland and that’s exactly what we are doing with projects like Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail,” he said.

The plans include a new bus interchange, improved walking and cycling links, and a multi-storey park ‘n’ ride with about 600 spaces.

New lifts, raised platforms and accessibility features such as hearing loops are also proposed.

Road changes are part of the design, with upgrades and new traffic signals planned at George and Zander streets, as well as along George Street, Boundary Street and Logan River Road to manage traffic around the station.

The existing Beenleigh station would remain open while the new one is built, allowing construction to happen alongside current services and limiting disruption for commuters.

Community feedback from 2023 influenced the latest design, particularly concerns about access to the town centre, parking capacity, traffic impacts and flooding in the area.

Residents can have their say on the updated plans until 31 May, with in-person sessions scheduled across Beenleigh as well as an online submission process.

A Transport and Main Roads spokesman said work on the station was expected to ramp up soon.

“Major construction on the station is planned to start next year with the project expected to be completed ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” he said.

“The Logan Gold Coast Faster Rail project is part of the Queensland Government’s plan to build the roads and infrastructure needed for a growing population.”

Design work is continuing, with major construction across the corridor expected to begin later in 2026.
