Native wildlife saviour tactic

Logan City Council have introduced a tactic to reduce the number of vehicle collisions with native wildlife.

14 portable advisory signs are being installed throughout Logan suburbs, targeting certain wildlife hotspots.

Four are already in place on roads in Springwood, Park Ridge and Greenbank.

The initiative is jointly funded by council’s environment levy and the Local Infrastructure Program for Divisions 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

Council’s environment committee chairperson,  Cr Jon Raven, said the signs would increase awareness and keep roads and wildlife safe.

“… but they only work if drivers slow down when they see the signs,” he said.

“We know that our community expects Council to do everything we can to protect native wildlife and motorists when they are on the road.”
