Natalie Willcocks named Logan’s new deputy mayor

EXPERIENCED councillor Jon Raven has been axed out of the city’s second biggest job as deputy mayor.

In a vote at last week’s council meeting, councillors elected Natalie Willcocks to replace him.

Cr Raven, strongly aligned with the Labor Party, was one of four councillors who were placed in an advisory role while the city was under administration.

And there were strong rumours he was being groomed as the next mayor of Logan.

The position of deputy is one of few positions which requires an annual vote, something required under the Local Government Act.

Cr Raven will retain his position as chair of the city’s City Planning, Economic Development and Environment Committee, but loses his office as the mayor’s second-in-charge after two years in the role.

In a statement, Cr Willcocks said she had enjoyed working with Mayor Darren Power and her council colleagues since first being elected in 2020 as councillor for some of the city’s high growth areas in the west, including Park Ridge and Flagstone.

She said she was eager to gain more leadership experience.

“I have learnt a lot and have appreciated the knowledge and skills everyone has shared since I became a councillor,” Cr Willcocks said.

“I look forward to working with everyone at Logan City Council and across the community over the next 12 months in this exciting new role.”

Mayor Darren Power congratulated Cr Willcocks on her appointment and thanked Cr Raven for
his two years of service in the role.

The appointment is effective immediately.
