Mount Gravatt Show celebrates over 110 years of existence

The Mount Gravatt Show is celebrating its 110th annual event this year at the Mount Gravatt Showgrounds.

One of Brisbane and Queensland’s longest-running community-led events, the Mount Gravatt Show is on from 9am to 9pm on Saturday, 25 July and from and 9am-4pm on Sunday, 26 July..

Highlights at the event feature a Freestyle Motocross Stunt Show by the FMX Kaos International Freestyle Team, fireworks on Saturday night, an animal nursery and wildlife encounters, and Paw Patrol appearances on Sunday, among many other competitions, events and activities.

Additionally, the show is hosting 21 competitions across different agricultural, horticultural and arts and crafts categories, including show jumping, cattle, Lego and cooking competitions among many others.

The Mount Gravatt Show was first held in 1915, held in James Paddock behind the Mount Gravatt Hotel.

In 1919, the show moved to its current premises at Mount Gravatt Showgrounds, and the Mount Gravatt Show Society has worked ever since to preserve the traditions of the agricultural show movement while creating new opportunities for community engagement.

The Mount Gravatt Show also hosts the Mount Gravatt Rodeo, its second iteration currently being scheduled this year on Saturday, 12 September.

Mount Gravatt Show Society executive committee president Justin Rosenberg said the show’s long history reflected the resilience of the organisation and the ongoing support of the community.

“For more than 110 years, the Mt Gravatt Show has been a showcase of community spirit, local talent and agricultural tradition,” Mr Rosenberg said.

“As president, I am incredibly proud to be part of an organisation that has served the community for generations while continuing to evolve and offer new experiences for today’s families.

“The show would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, exhibitors, competitors, sponsors and partners.

“The Mt Gravatt Show belongs to the community, and it is that community support which has allowed the event to continue for more than a century.”
