The historic Mayes Cottage is hosting its first Spring Soiree this September.
Inspired by garden parties in the 1930s, the Spring Soiree will include a performance from the Logan Symphony Orchestra String Quartet, opportunities to take part in traditional waltzes and a best dressed competition.
Light refreshments will also be served in the cottage grounds and there will be prizes for best dressed.
Mayor Jon Raven said if you haven’t visited Mayes Cottage yet, this is the time.
“The grounds will come alive with entertainment and it’s a chance to discover the stories that shaped Logan into what it is today.”
A Logan City Council spokesperson said the soiree’s theme was selected to celebrate the heritage character of Mayes Cottage.
“Soirées were garden parties regularly held in the 1930s and Mayes Cottage looks the same today as it did in the 1930s.”
“Mayes Cottage was built in 1887 by the Mayes family and was their home for 100 years. It’s now a museum that showcases Logan’s heritage, which makes it the perfect venue for this event.”
Mayes Cottage is a Queensland Heritage-listed site, largely unchanged and preserved to show a glimpse into the life of the Mayes Family, one of Logan’s early pioneers.
The property now maintains the original 1872 and 1887 houses, and a dairy and feed shed, built and lived in by the Mayes family and restored to what it was like in the period where the Mayes family stayed in the property, offering a glimpse into life in Logan in its early days.
Mayes Cottage Spring Soirée will be held from 10.30am-2.30pm on Saturday 5 September at Mayes Cottage House Museum, 20 Mawarra Street, Kingston. Tickets are $25. Book via Logan Arts.
