Cedar Groves 4 Philips Road began as a master builder’s passion project, for himself and his wife to live in.
In 1995, he built the property exactly the way he wanted it, hoping to maximise liveability and the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
Donovan and Esme Bredenhann have owned the property since 2021, when, during Covid uncertainty, they found themselves working from home and looking to flee Brisbane’s cityscape.
“The house itself is the key, because it was designed by a master builder,” Mr Bredenhann said.
“He had very good industry knowledge, and placed the house in a position on the property where it gets perfect sunrises and sunsets from the east and western sides of the house.
“So that is something that’s really spectacular.”
The master bedroom on the top floor of the house has a balcony with an unobstructed view overlooking the Flinders Peak mountain range, which is roughly 21km from Jimboomba.
“We fell in love with the house because of its character,” Mr Bredenhann said.
The house is unlike any other in the suburb, in construction and character, Ms Bredenhann said.
“There’s almost no rectangular or square room in this house; every room has interesting corners and shapes, and our media room is octagonal,” she said.
“It’s an incredibly beautiful property on the inside and the outside, because it’s not overgrown with many trees, it’s well landscaped and tranquil.
“The feel of the house is like a Hampton-style, modernised farmhouse.”
The couple has listed the house for sale as they’ve reached a crossroads in their lives.
Their daughter is beginning her own adult life independently, and their parents, who live in the southern African nation of Namibia, need more support from close family.
“We may be moving back to our home country in Namibia, to our family out there for a while, and then we’ll see where life takes us,” they said.
“It is a big change, but I think we’re at that stage of our lives where our parents are getting up in their age and we’d like to spend the time that we have left with them.”
The property would be well-suited to a range of demographics, Mr Bredenhann said.
“It may be an older demographic of people that appreciate the style of the house, but we’ve had some families through here as well with young kids,” he said.
“The previous owners were a family of four with two young daughters.
“It’s unique, stylish, and it’s on 5665sqm with a swimming pool so it would actually appeal to several different groups of people.”
