A man has been charged with assaulting a firefighter who was battling a blaze at a Logan Central apartment complex.
The firefighter, a 56-year-old man, was responding to a cluster of suspiciously-lit blazes at apartments on Defiance Road at about 3.30am on 10 November.
Police allege a man, 51, assaulted the firefighter who was attempting to extinguish one of the fires.
“The firefighter sustained a minor facial injury,” a police spokesperson said
“The man was taken into custody at the scene.”
The 51-year-old, from Charters Towers, has been charged with one count of serious assault of a person performing lawful duty.
He was scheduled to appear at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on 10 November.
Police said there was no indication he lit the fires.
Hours following the incident, police said in a statement that they believed two fires were lit by a person in the downstairs garage of a unit on Defiance Road.
“The person then entered the garage of the neighbouring unit and lit another fire, before igniting the front garden of the next-door house,” the statement read.
Emergency services arrived on scene later and extinguished the fires, and police declared a crime scene.
