Loganholme man among two fined $1,919 each for extreme speeding on Brisbane highway

A Loganholme man and a Strathpine woman have been fined nearly $2,000 each after being caught travelling at more than double the speed limit on a North Brisbane highway last month.

Officers from the Road Policing Task Force detected a motorcycle on Hornibrook Highway, Brighton, travelling at 173km/h on 15 June. The posted speed limit on that stretch is 80km/h.

The pair — a 32-year-old man from Loganholme and a 37-year-old woman from Strathpine — were issued traffic infringement notices for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h. Each was fined $1,919.

Officers were conducting mobile patrols in the North Brisbane District at around 9.10pm when they observed the motorcycle.

Officer in Charge of the Road Policing Task Force, Senior Sergeant Paul Kelly, said the penalties reflected the serious danger posed by extreme speeding.

“A moment of risky behaviour can lead to devastating consequences,” Senior Sergeant Kelly said.

“Speeding has a direct consequence on your safety and those around you. Unsafe driving behaviours on our roads is not harmless fun — it carries real consequences that can affect a person financially, their ability to drive, and potentially their future.”

Senior Sergeant Kelly warned that any road user exceeding the speed limit should expect to encounter police.

The Road Policing Task Force conducts regular patrols across South-East Queensland, including roads frequently used by Logan residents travelling to and from the Brisbane metropolitan area.

Hornibrook Highway connects the Redcliffe Peninsula to northern Brisbane and carries significant traffic volumes, including motorcycles travelling through the region.

Queensland Police said they remain committed to holding riders and drivers accountable when their behaviour endangers themselves and others on the road.

Speed-related crashes remain one of the leading causes of road fatalities across Queensland. Exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h carries not only a significant financial penalty but also demerit points, which can result in licence suspension.
