Logan to host Queensland’s first Run Nation championship event

Run Nation will bring its biggest championship event to Queensland for the first time when the fast-growing collision sport lands in Logan next month.

RNC 03 will be held at the Logan Sports and Events Centre on 9 May, featuring 10 head-to-head match-ups and more than 2000 spectators.

The sport combines sprinting, strength and wrestling-style collisions in short, high-intensity contests between athletes.

Organisers say competitors selected for the event went through extensive testing at an official combine, including speed, agility, endurance and neck-strength assessments.

The Queensland event follows a sold-out showcase in Sydney attended by more than 5000 fans, organisers say.

Former NRL player Sam Kasiano and UFC heavyweight Justin Tafa will appear as coaches, guiding Brisbane-based athletes through the competition.

The event will also introduce new rule changes aimed at improving athlete safety.

Several high-profile sports and entertainment figures are expected to attend, including boxer Jai Opetaia, AFL player Lachie Neale, boxer Liam Paro, former rugby league player Wendell Sailor and Brisbane Broncos captain Adam Reynolds.

Performance data for athletes has been analysed in partnership with Principal Performance using information captured by sports technology company VALD.

Organisers said the data was used to help inform athlete selection and support a “safety-led competition”.
