Fuel price shocks are driving up the cost of moving in Logan, with new data showing local removalist rates have reached record highs as diesel prices surge.
The Logan Moving Data Report by Find a Mover shows hourly removalist rates in Logan have climbed to $150 in 2026, the highest level recorded and above the previous peak of $149 during the 2022 Ukraine oil shock.
The report showed diesel prices have simultaneously jumped to $3.08p/L, nearly doubling the $2.12p/L peak seen in 2022.
Find a Mover’s analysis, based on more than a decade of pricing data, shows removalist rates typically rise within four to eight weeks of fuel price increases as operators pass on higher costs.
That pattern has played out sharply in Logan before.
Separate analysis published by Find a Mover found removalist rates in the area jumped 24 per cent during the last major oil shock, one of the steepest increases recorded nationally, as fuel prices surged.
Rates have now overtaken those earlier highs in 2026, that same analysis shows.
The report tracks pricing data from more than one million moves since 2014, showing how major global events have influenced local costs.
Prices dipped below inflation-adjusted benchmarks for several years before rising again during COVID-19 in 2020 and spiking during the Ukraine war in 2022.
After easing slightly in 2023 and 2024, rates have climbed again alongside the latest fuel price surge, which the report links to global supply disruptions affecting oil markets.
Similar trends are being recorded across major cities, including Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, the Logan data shows how quickly global events can flow through to household costs at a local level.
The report suggests further increases may follow in the coming weeks if fuel prices remain elevated, pointing to continued pressure on Logan residents planning a move.
