Logan City Council Division 2 candidates

Division 2 of Logan City Council includes: Kingston, Logan Central, Woodridge, and part of Underwood.

There are three candidates.

Name: Teresa Lane

Teresa Lane

Occupation: Councillor Division 2

Age: 53 and fabulous!

In 250 words or less, tell us about yourself and your community attributes.
Division 2 is the heart of Logan City and people come from many other locations to participate in our welcoming groups, our rich culture and our wonderful activities.

Why should people vote for you?
I’m delivering good outcomes and services that people of all ages can benefit from. I have a secured funding from our State and Federal MP’s for big impact projects and regularly consult with residents clocking up more than 250 mobile offices and 20 community
consultations since being elected in 2020.

What would you aim to deliver for your community?
Finishing the Youth Centre next to the library and improving local parks, roads and footpaths. There isn’t a magic money tree so staying within budget
is essential.

Why did you decide to run for council?
I wanted to live in a community where everyone has access to great services, where children with disabilities could play on the same swings as their friends in local parks, where seniors can relax and enjoy retirement and where families have open spaces to enjoy.
I want to improve experiences through better planning decisions, modernised facilities and activities that enhance our amazing community spirit.

What suburb do you live in?
I’m a 4114 girl living in Woodridge in an 89sqm old commission home. I drive a 10 year old Nissan cube for work and a 69 VW bug for fun. I know my neighbours and represent each suburb in our division with an open mind and a fair hand.

How long have you been in the area?
Since the early 70’s with time out for military service and working for federal and state governments. I purchased my first home as a single parent in 1999 and pay my rates fortnightly on our home and a rental property my family live in. I am happily married
and have 2 dogs.

Name: Jacinta Parer
I am a proud resident of Logan who has lived in Woodridge for 4 years. It is now my home, and my neighbours and friends are now family to me.
We share our love for the area and all it has to offer, but we think it can be better.
As a registered nurse with over 10 years of experience, people talk to me a lot about their concerns and what they would like to see improved.
Now it is true that I am not a politician and I do not come across like one. I am just an average ratepayer doing regular work, but listening to people all over Logan I have heard that one of the big concerns for all of us, is safety.
People do not feel safe walking through parks, along pathways, at bus stations and at train stations.
I believe better lighting and security cameras would be a good start to addressing these concerns and I would make that my top priority.
Having more community events in our parks, like movies in the park, will also help give our public space back to the people.
I would also fight to get better public transport which takes us directly into Brisbane city without multiple transfers, which I believe is long overdue.
To me, council should be about putting people first, just as it is in nursing.
If I was lucky enough to be elected, I would work hard to make Logan better for all of us.
Candidate: Reese Preston-Smith. Awaiting response.
