Logan centre bumps in at Bold fashion event

Hyperdome Shopping Centre has been the sponsor of one of Brisbane’s biggest fashion events – yesterday’s (Monday) Black Bold & Beautiful luncheon.

The event was a celebration of First Nations fashion, business, and culture and aligned with International Women’s Day.

Founded in 2009 by Aunty Sandra King OAM, the event featured guest speakers, a vibrant fashion parade, and a showcase of First Nations businesses from across the state.

Themed ‘Navigating Challenges’ this year, the event explored discussions held at community meetings and support workers groups, involving First Nation women who have taken on various challenges throughout their careers, personal, and social lives.

“Hyperdome is not just a retail destination; it’s also a social space dedicated to enhancing the lives of the local community,” Hyperdome centre manager Brian Turner said.

“The centre serves as a central hub for retail, entertainment, community, and culture, and we are committed to meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, businesses, and community collaborators.”

Aunty Sandra, who was among the country’s first prominent First Nations fashion model in the 1970s, said the event
provided a forum for First Nations women and non-Indigenous women to come together and network, invest and
inspire each other.

“Recognising and promoting the achievements of our First Nation women is our key focus at BBB,” she says.

“It is also necessary to celebrate the support, unity, and reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
communities and the wider community. Through this event we want people to be informed, be inspired, and be empowered.”
