Logan Bookfest is set to bring readers, writers and book lovers together for a day celebrating stories, creativity and the joy of reading.
Taking place at the Beenleigh Events Centre on Saturday 24 October, the festival will give the Logan community the chance to get to know local authors, with plenty on offer for readers of all ages.
Author and owner of Turtle Publishing, Kathy Shanks, said the event was about celebrating the reading community.
“I brought this together as a book market and it’s aimed towards readers,” Ms Shanks said.
The festival is designed for readers, aspiring writers, families and more, with organisers encouraging people to come along whether they are already passionate about books or simply looking for something new.
Among the highlights visitors won’t want to miss is the book bedazzling, while the photobooth will give attendees the chance to get their picture on a book cover.
Ms Shanks said events such as Logan Bookfest were an opportunity for people to connect through their shared love of stories and meet others in their community.
“It’s really hard for local authors to find their audience in the market … if you can meet people, you can get a bit of traction with your books.
I wanted to create a space where local people can meet local artists and celebrate that,” Ms Shanks said.
The festival will also showcase local talent, with authors such as Laura Morris, Andrew Henderson, Cam Shaw and Siobhan Wilson, 17, who wrote Our Pixie Friends, getting involved.
For Ms Shanks, the hope is that visitors leave the festival wanting to pick up a few more books.
Logan Bookfest will be held from 9am to 4pm on Saturday 24 October at the Beenleigh Events Centre. Entry is free.
