Forest Lake’s Commonwealth Bank branch will close its doors on Friday, 27 February.
It will be ‘replaced’ by Inala Civic Centre’s Comm Bank branch, roughly 4km away.
Member for Inala, Margie Nightingale, said branch closure would leave many customers significantly worse off and urged the bank’s CEO, Matt Comyn, to reconsider in a public letter posted on social media.
“The closure will have a serious and disproportionate impact on older customers, people with limited mobility, and those who rely on in-branch services to manage their finances,” Ms Nightingale said.
“For many of these customers, being required to travel further to access basic banking services is not a minor inconvenience, but a substantial and ongoing barrier.
“I am particularly concerned that this decision appears to have been made following an internal review without any meaningful consultation or engagement with the Forest Lake customers who regularly use this branch.”
