A petition to improve a “notorious” stretch of road has garnered hundreds of signatures.
Around 400 people have signed the petition so far, asking that traffic lights be installed at the intersection where Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road meets Bannockburn and Belivah roads.
The petition was started by the federal Member for Forde Bert van Manen, who said he wanted to work with the state government to upgrade the intersection.
“I’ve circulated a petition over the last few weeks to show the state government, who are responsible for the stretch, the levels of support there are for this upgrade,” Mr van Manen said.
“For too long the incumbent state Labor government has overlooked this road, as well as many others in the region.”
Mr van Manen showed Queensland’s Shadow Minister for Roads and Transport, Steve Minnikin, around the area last week.
“I was very eager to get the Shadow Minister to the area so he could see the intersection with his own eyes,” Mr van Manen said.
He said they witnessed a couple of “close calls” at the intersection in the short time they were there.
“While we were close by, I also showed him the progress, or lack thereof, on Beaudesert–Beenleigh Rd, Milne St to Tallagandra Rd duplication,” Mr van Manen said.
“I look forward to working with whoever the government is after October 26 and seeing this intersection upgrade through to realisation.”
